Behind Tom Ford’s Los Angeles home, lies the only part of the property that the avowed Virgo allowed his husband, Richard Buckley, control of – the rose garden that inspired TOM FORD’s Rose Prick eau de parfum. Different varietals including Turkish and Bulgarian roses and Rose de Mai bloom alongside one another in an organic way that defies the designer’s symmetry-bound nature, while Sichuan pepper and turmeric act as the thorns, binding them together in interlocked perfection.
- Top notes: Sichuan Pepper and Turmeric
- Middle notes: May Rose, Bulgarian Rose and Turkish Rose
- Base notes: Patchouli and Tonka Bean

Rose Prick has a clean aroma and is made up of a wild bouquet of rare blossoms inspired by those discovered in a private rose garden. Patchouli exhales the woody breath of chypre into the flowery heart, while roasted tonka warms with caramel and vanilla undertones.

garden of Tom Ford himself, very different from Café Rose and Noir de Noir, the existing rose-dominant releases in the Private Blend collection. It’s a mix of several types of roses, pepper, patchouli, and tonka. While there are spicy and sweet touches, it’s certainly rose-dominant. It’s interesting and pleasant while not being head-turning or alluring. It’s reasonably unisex but feminine-leaning, somewhat more interesting than simply “office-friendly”.
It has a lighter character than Café Rose (infused with coffee) and Noir de Noir (darker still, with chocolate, vanilla, and patchouli), so Rose Prick might be a nice alternative for anyone who finds CR and NDN to be a bit heavy for their liking.
I’m not yet sure about the pricing, but presumably it’ll be available at the current lower pricing of $240 for 50ml or higher pricing of $335 for 50ml.
For me, it’s a “like” not a “love,” particularly considering the TFPB pricing, regardless of whether it’s priced in the lower or higher tier. I quite like it but am probably content with a small decant moving forward.
So, I am loving this one . It’s pretty unique and special to me. I have only worn it for two days and got at least 3 compliments . I find rose prick very rosy , unlike other reviewers. Yes it may be patchouli dominant and sweetened by roasted tonka , spiced by a dusting of turmeric and pricked by Sichuan pepper BUT I can smell the rose clearly and all over it.
Rose prick is quite sweet , a little spicy, fresh and creamy. I also smell some “roasted “caramel candy.
Unlike most reviewers I love the name. But to me it reminds me of “Dornröschen” the fairy tail .
Also I adore the bottle & the colour !
Fabulous !
To me it’s unmistakably a Tom Ford scent.
This is so spicy and gorgeous I can’t believe the negative reviews. Grandma? I’ve never smelled a grandma like this..dusty? Nope not dusty at all, earthy and Lucious. perhaps it’s my chemistry but this smells warm to me where others say it’s a cold stinging rose. I smell the full body of the rose and the earthy quality of the patchouli. The turmeric gives it’s a savory spicy edge.
Projection is mild but longevity is decent.
It’s not the greatest rose fragrance I’ve ever smelled. That’s Radical Rose. But if you can get this at a decent price and you’re a rose lover do it.
I honestly don't understand the dislikes on this fragrance. My only negative for this is the cheeky, try-hard name. That and maybe the price.
The rose is very prominent at first but it is quickly tamed by the szechuan pepper and earthy turmeric with the tonka and patch at the end. That's the progression I get with every whiff and it's completely addictive. Towards the end of the longevity (8+ hours)it settles prominently into the base notes, which smells is more masculine but I like this part of the dry-down as well. I could not stop sniffing this.
Rose Prick is not a 'masterpiece.' However, it has a few simple notes that smell authentic and they play together perfectly. There's depth, character, a slight eccentricity, and the addiction to sniffing it that hit me immediately upon applying my sample. I don't find this to be especially appropriate for any particular season or occasion so I may use this as my signature.
Huge longevity and silage, and feels very versatile to the extent that if it didn’t cost quite such an eye-watering amount I’d put it on my personal wish list. I’ve tried this a few times now and gotten slightly different characteristics from it each time so I think it’s somewhat changeable depending on the weather. Other times it’s started off as a very peppery/spicy old English rose, this time the opening was massive unmistakeable lychee fruit and a clean pale rose, settling to a sweet, spicy tonka base. For such a massive scent it’s extremely well balanced - not overwhelmingly masculine or feminine, nor warm or cool.
