TOM FORD Café Rose Eau de Parfum

I tested this right after my Granny passed and was craving a rose sent to uplift my heart. This is a lovely spicy rose with lots of depth from the incense. I have extremely dry skin so no scent last on me and this is no exception. But last a decent amount on my clothing. I did get a full size bottle and it’s half gone already. I love it.

When I first bought this I felt the longevity was short lived. But now it seems to have great staying power. I hope this doesn’t get discontinued.

Coming from a male who wears more masculine scents, I find this to be a unisex floral fragrance (more of a patchouli smell) that fits into the gourmet category. I wear this from time to time and feel like it's a natural, cozy fragrance with a touch that suits anyone. I recommend to check it out if you haven't done so. I don't smell the coffee like I was anticipating the first time but I still bought it. I'm interested in checking out the original Café Rose to see if there are any differences. Overall, 8/10 👍

I don't really understand the reviews for this one, this is a rather agreeable rose scent. I'm guessing this rerelease is getting some spillover from general Tom Ford drama, which is a shame. To be fair, I haven't smelled the original or have any strong opinions on what happens with whatever TF has going on.

It is a sort of spicy rose that lasts ages and is very versatile. It smells classic, stated, romantic, and a bit nostalgic. It opens strongly with a bright sort of classic spicy and green rose. There is something in this that reminds me of summer camp growing up. The other more common invocation would be a nice night time date scent, like a very classic perfume a woman would wear out on the town.

As it goes into the middle notes, it becomes a strong rose scent, which is great because the performance is fantastic and a lot of rose scents lack this.

I will say that the coffee in this is really only in the opening and even then its slight, it mostly disappears quickly. The name is a bit of a misnomer in that regard, this is a sort of patchouli-rose-spice scent with rose being the most dominant.

I think you can wear this in mostly any occasion or weather, its a safe choice. I don't think this perfume reinvents the wheel but its quite nice. If you have something similar already, I wouldn't bother. But this is a good choice for that genre of scent.

I saw the mixed reviews on this so I was a bit scared to try it. Today I was in the shop and figured, why not? Turns out it's a love at first sniff for me! It's quite different from other rose fragrances that I've tried. I feel like a disclaimer for coffee lovers is in place: you probably won't find it in here. The coffee is silent. If you do get it, you're very lucky.

In the opening, I definitely feel more than just the top notes. A light patchouli and cardamom peek through, making the rose interesting, and add a dark touch. The overall feel of the fragrance isn't unpleasantly heavy by any means. It has a light/airy quality to it somehow, but also strong projection for about 2 hours. After that it becomes more gentle and elegant. The frankincense + sandalwood base is smooth and pleasant. It does become a bit soapy, as some have said. For me this is actually a plus, I like it a lot. Overall it lasts about 7-8 hours on me.

I owned the original Café Rose and I stupidly sold it because I didn't wear it enough.
I was excited to see that this was being relaunched.
Now, yes this 2023 is very close and it's nice but it's definitely missing the depth and richness that the original has.
2023 doesn't have the performance and has a bit of a soapy nuance to it. This one can be worn much more casually.

I'm revisiting the idea of hunting down the OG Café Rose (luckily I still have a 5mL decant of the original).

For now, I will keep this one and give it a good wearing before making a final decision. ☺️
