Kilian Hennessy's inspiration: Introducing a brand new collection, Kilian Hennessy felt it was time to pay tribute to his heritage, as heir to the renowned French cognac making family, and to his choice olfactory intoxicants for driving the night towards dawn. As a first-time collaboration with perfumer Franck Voelkl, Kilian Hennessy wanted to recreate the tasting of “gin on the rocks” with a splash of lime.

The Perfume: Anyone for notes of gin, distilled with rose and cucumber? The perfume Roses on Ice opens with the aquatic freshness of cucumber and the aromatic uplift of juniper berries, creating an icy sensation, rounded in an accord with voluptuous Rose Centifolia. Upon a drydown of sandalwood and musk, the scent expresses the sharp—yet deeply infused—character of gin consumed in its ideal.

I still wonder why it has a below average rating. It’s not as bad as others perceive it to be. I live in a tropical country where Summer gets scorching hot and let me tell you, Roses on Ice performed really well.

Admittedly, I wasn’t a fan the first time I used it because of the heavy cucumber note—but we went on a 7-hour trip to a province south of the capital and was surprised I can still smell it at the end of our trip. First spray was like a cucumber bomb with a hint of alcohol and lime which wasn’t my cup of tea really. It stayed on like that for less than an hour until it settled into a nice rose petals in a water that amazingly lasted during the whole trip. It survived a plane ride, taxi, bus, and tricycle ride.

The second time I used it was during a procession. Had my usual 5 sprays before I left. We walked all the way to the Church, attended a mass, walked to the Cemetery and then back home again to have late lunch. Took us 3 hours to finish all that and of course came back home all sweaty from all the walking. To my surprise, others can smell roses on me at an arms length— which is weird because I can barely smell it at that time.

The scent for sure is unique. I get cucumber, alcohol, lime, and ends with rose petals water. Performance, definitely above average in the Summer. That being said, I will keep exploring this perfume and take it on my Summer journey. And yes, definitely getting addicted to it.

beautiful scent

To my nose this is mostly cucumber water and MFK's Gentle fluidity Silver juniper'esque gin accord in the start. Once settled down all you get is dry gin on ice kind of scent. I sense very little to no rose on my skin. What I do find fascinating about Roses on Ice is that the scent in the mid is crazy close to what the actual Hendriks gin tastes like. Overall pleasant and unisex. Longevity is short of 5h on my skin. lasts a bit longer on fabric. Sample this one off your skin and not paper. It's very paper-shy fragrance.

Very beautiful

Very beautiful , and looks stunning on my shelf. It’s almost a copy of creeds silver mountain water which is very unique and like nothing else out there . However those two are super similar , aquatic , ozonic , green and a breath of cold fresh air. They both remind me of fall and winter , sunny alps and outdoor activities like skiing ... not to say it won’t cool you down on a hot summer day. I could paste my creed review here and it would not change :). Prefer Kilians a tiny bit as I love the rose note and the bottle better. Big thumbs up , compliment getter and definitely unisex not leaning feminine nor masculine. Fresh , green , clean and musky , almost a metallic salty ambrette seed note in there, nice drydown , as in silver mountain W the sandalwood and the musk are making a sexy clean skin scent in the end , love it !

I was curious as to what this perfume would smell like given all of the articles and reviews I’ve read on it that were unfavourable. I tend to love Kilian fragrances generally. I like this fragrance, and am glad I have it in my collection, though it’s not a love. What do I like about it? It’s cold, crisp, and refreshing. I think roses on ice is an excellent name for it. It smells like a refreshing drink that is slightly herbal. The rose is a light floral version, and plays a supporting role. Cucumber is definitely the most dominant. It does last all day. My favourite fragrances are warm gourmands, followed by white florals which is why this one wouldn’t make my top ten. But I will wear it and I think it was done well. I don’t think this would be offensive to those around you.

If it was named "Cucumber on ice" this perfume would be a 4.50!!!

Rose notes and musk on dry down, but the cucumber smell definitely overpowers most of it which personally I love!!

This perfume smells like Spa day in Maldives or Bora Bora with fresh white linen bedsheets and a fresh white Egyptian cotton towel.... yummmmm so fresh and clean!
