Kilian Straight to Heaven Eau de Parfum is a men's woody fragrance. Straight to Heaven, a white crystal, envelops the senses in ecstatic moments. A searing splash of rich dark rum defines the entrance, which is calmed by creamy vanilla and dried fruit. Spicy patchouli finishes with the fresh, woodsy aroma of cedarwood, achieving animalic harmony at last. Straight to Heaven Eau de Parfum is part of the Kilian Cellars collection. Woodsy perfumes in all their forms, from sandalwood to cedarwood, patchouli to Vetyver, but always with a Kilian twist: rum, coffee, cacao, cognac, and whisky, as a nod to Kilian Hennessy's background. This is certainly a unique scent. As soon as I opened my sample vial it was green and resinous and aromatic and a little boozy. It was something very familiar, but I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what. Close up, the scent was the familiar one plus a soapy note, but in the sillage the soap was absent and the smell was pure. It took me about 30 minutes until I realized that this was the scent of retsina! Duh! How could I have missed it? I love retsina (a relatively cheap treat that’s much-maligned by people who fancy themselves wine connoisseurs) and this scent replicates it almost perfectly. Do I want to smell like retsina? Why not? I just wish it didn’t have that soapy scent up close.

The flavor (actually odor) of retsina comes from pine resin in the wooden barrels in which it’s aged - at least that’s how it is traditionally done - so my guess is that Kilian’s nose put some pine resin (or a synthetic facsimile thereof) in this scent along with the other notes that are listed. Maybe it’s those other notes that shape the pine to have a wine-like odor. Except for the soap, I like this a lot for the top notes, but can only love it from a distance for the first two hours because after that it degenerates into a soapy cedary “men’s cologne” scent of the spicy, sweet type.

It came as a pleasant surprise later to find that the retsina scent lingered on the clothes I had been wearing, without any of the soapiness. Maybe Straight to Heaven should be applied to clothing for the best effect.

I love, love, love this! I must say I am very confused by this scent being categorized for men rather than unisex. I ordered this while searching for cedar scents and didn’t notice that it wasn’t unisex. I’m glad I did because I have to say this is by far the best cedar I have found. It is very unique, so definitely test before buying. This is my husband’s favorite scent that I wear, so ladies don’t hesitate to try it!

After sampling a dozen or so By Kilian fragrances and being utterly disappointed (and offended by the cost) I finally found a fragrance that is FB worthy from this house.

Straight to Heaven is a VERY nice fragrance, romantic, yet casual, sensual, yet not in your face about it. It's also warm and comforting but doesn't need to be worn in winter (I live in South Florida and this works great here)

The initial spray can be a bit off-putting at first, it has a very strong "booze" opening but like in a way that you just spilled rum all over yourself trying to open the bottle. lol

That alcoholic opening subsides within minutes and you're left with a rich, warm, slightly sweet (and I hate sweet, but this works for me) smoky, woody vibe. It's VERY comforting, it almost gives off an incense vibe (I'm guessing due to the patchouli)

As it continues to dry down, you get a very smoky, patchouli note that has a soft sandalwood note, with some sweet spice.

To get the rum, dried fruits, and nutmeg you gotta warm this one up....so this is what I do: I put my nose to my skin and breathe out of my nose several times to warm up the fragrance, then I inhale back through my nose...you REALLY get the dark rum and dried fruits. The rum is not a fresh in the glass rum, it's a dried rum.....like you know when you've finished your glass and there is a drop or two that remains in the glass and dries a bit....THAT smell is the smell of this rum a dark, oaky, spicy rum it's DELICIOUS!

You can detect the amber slightly, but it's hard to notice.This is my favorite By Kilian fragrance and I want to try Sacred Wood and STH Extreme now.

The opening is a boozy rum - not surprising given that it comes from Kilian Hennessey (of cognac fame). It settles down pretty quickly, and they try to temper it with the dried fruit accord which I think they pulled off nicely.

This comes off as being a really smooth scent all the way through. The sweet ambergris, the rosewood, the cedar...it's just a really well balanced scent.

Out of the ones I've tried so far, this is my favourite in the By Kilian line. I got a sample of this from Luckyscent, and without noticing which ones I was trying, Straight to Heaven is the one that really grabbed my attention. I'm considering buying a bottle of it sometime soon.
