A Trompe l’Œil Cologne is deceptively understated, aristocratic, and singular. Its composition plays on dissonant accords, beginning with a top note redolent with the addictive mellowness of neroli and the sensuous bite of fig tree. Aromatic, citrusy, green powderiness. A grounded yet optimistic woody fragrance suitable for anyone.

The opening is green and aromatic, with a distinct fig-like green powderiness, instead of a milky powder note. After a short warm-up on my skin, the neroli unfurls, bringing forward a floral citrus note. The sillage is bright and herbaceous with a bite, reminding me of mossy men's colognes. The greenness is retained in the dry down and lasts about 5 hours on my skin until it becomes entirely undetectable.

Omg, what a beautiful scent! It opens very mossy and earthy, with a bit of neroli peeking through for freshness. The fig is more in a supporting role I feel. Then is transitions into this very different base of earthy, creamy smoooooth, comforting orris. Only the opening is leaning a little masculine, but settles very unisex. I don't see it on a girly girl though.

This is the scent I've been looking for since I started my fragrance journey in 1995. When I was very young, I used to know a family (coincidentally the mom's name was Celine) and I loved the way their house smelled. I always thought it was cedar but it's more or less exactly this. I can't believe that I've finally found it after all this time.

This brings me back to a happy time in my childhood years and it's just nice and comforting. I realize now I more or less had this scent in my collection for years through Dunhill Icon but the memory didn't hit me until I wore this.

I've tested some other scents from Celine and a few of them have a similar base. This stays cool and clean unlike Icon which got a little cheap after a while on my skin.

Simple, elegant, great for this time of year (April), not too strong but present. Expensive, but worth it. I know people gravitate to Black Tie and Nightclubbing first but don't overlook this gem.

The neroli is so well blended with the musk it's addictive. It's noble and comforting at once, nothing idiosyncratic or avant-garde. Hedi Slimane has simply perfected the eau de cologne genre, making it incredibly longstanding without losing its fundamental structure.

I fear that, if any in the HP line is to be discontinued, this would be the one because it's the least talked about. But Cologne Francaise is truly an unsung masterpiece.
