In this exclusive interview, we speak with the founder of an online boutique specializing in unique, curated perfumes and fragrance decants. From her first introduction to the world of scents to becoming a trusted advisor for clients seeking their perfect match, she shares insights, personal stories, and professional values that shape her approach to perfumery.
1. Tell us about your blog and who you are.
My blog is dedicated to the art of fragrance discovery. It’s a place for perfume lovers who want to find their unique scent, delve into the nuances of perfumery, and access a carefully curated selection of samples and decants. I’m an enthusiastic perfume connoisseur with years of experience, and my goal is to share that passion and knowledge, making the process of choosing a scent enjoyable and memorable for others.
2. What makes your blog different from others? What sets you apart?
My blog goes beyond typical fragrance reviews — it’s a journey where every scent has a story and a distinct mood. My unique approach lies in offering more than just recommendations: I provide clients the opportunity to try perfumes through decants, allowing them to explore new scents without committing to full bottles. Each fragrance comes with detailed descriptions and histories, crafted to help readers truly experience the essence of each scent.
3. What benefit does someone get by following your blog?
Subscribers gain access to curated recommendations, insights on fragrance trends, opportunities to purchase sample decants, and a behind-the-scenes look into the world of perfumery. I aim to convey each scent’s feeling through words and help my followers find a fragrance for every mood and occasion, offering not just information but inspiration.
4. Why did you choose this profession, and how did you get started?
My love for fragrances has been with me for as long as I can remember. From my first encounter with a rare scent, I became fascinated by how fragrances can shape mood and tell stories. This passion grew into a desire to help others find their own perfect fragrance, which is why I started my blog and began offering fragrance decants for people to sample before purchasing full-sized bottles.
5. What kind of training have you completed or plan to pursue in the future?
I have completed several courses on fragrance basics and aromatherapy, as well as training in scent identification and composition. In the future, I plan to dive deeper into niche perfumery and take courses in fragrance critique, which will help me provide even more refined and knowledgeable insights to my audience.
6. Can you share your experience with your first client or case in this profession?
My first client was someone who struggled to find a fragrance that truly resonated with her. We talked through her preferences, the notes she was drawn to, and ultimately, I recommended a few samples that fit her unique taste. She found her perfect match and was thrilled she didn’t have to invest in a large bottle before being sure of her choice. It was an incredibly fulfilling experience for both of us.
7. What are the core values that guide your work and life?
My core values are authenticity, individuality, aesthetics, and continuous learning. I believe that a fragrance should reflect a person’s character, which is why I take an individualized approach to each client. Aesthetic appeal and a high standard of quality are also essential, and I strive to create meaningful connections with my audience.
8. Share three situations from your life that reflect who you are as a person.
• Attention to Detail: When choosing a fragrance, I focus on every note and thoroughly explore the composition to bring out its full potential.
• Honesty in Reviews: I always share my true impressions of a fragrance, even if it’s not the most popular or trendy choice.
• Patience and Perseverance: Helping clients find the right fragrance often takes time, and I’m always willing to go the extra mile to ensure they’re delighted with their choice.
9. What would you say are your five strengths and weaknesses?
Strengths:
• Empathy
• Active listening skills
• Creativity in describing scents
• Patience
• Honesty
Weaknesses:
• Self-criticism
• Perfectionism
• Tendency to take time with decisions
• Sometimes too emotional in assessments
• Need for extra time to create content to my standards
10. What don’t you like about how other fragrance bloggers work? What bothers you?
I find the excessive commercialization frustrating, especially when scents are recommended without genuine reviews. It also disappoints me when reviews are overly superficial; I believe that each fragrance deserves a thoughtful, in-depth approach.
11. Do you have any rules or taboos when working with clients?
I never recommend a fragrance without understanding the client’s personal preferences. I also avoid excessive advertising because I want my recommendations to be trusted and genuine, not just sponsored endorsements.
12. What is the biggest challenge in your work?
The main challenge is finding a scent that resonates deeply with each individual, as everyone’s tastes and perceptions are unique. It’s also essential to balance honest reviews with brand partnerships, which can be delicate when maintaining authenticity.
13. How has the war in Ukraine affected you? What challenges have you faced?
The war has deeply impacted my perspective on life, making me value each moment and focus on doing what I love. I’ve faced challenges with supply chains, but it’s taught me resilience and motivated me to find new ways to sustain my business and continue providing products to my clients in UK.
